Bennetts, Glass Artists to Show at West End ARTSfest!

Veronica & David Bennett in front of one of their
art glass windows at Mellow Mushroom in Greensboro, NC
Veronica & David Bennett are preparing for their fourth year exhibiting at the Historic West End ARTSfest. They are an artist duo, as they work together to create beautiful art glass and found object sculptures. Their works juxtapose the graphic formalism of the Art Deco era with the experimentalism of found object art, combining traditional flat glass techniques with lampworking, fusing, kiln-carving and found objects.

The Bennetts lived in Alaska, once upon a time, for 20 years, so it is not surprising that they draw much of their inspiration from nature. Many of their works incorporate fossils, shells, crystals, stones, or resemble insects; as well as found objects, such as sections of coil, pipe, musical instruments, door locks and clockworks.

"Glacier Mermaid Incarnation" by Veronica & David Bennett
Their sculpture, "Guardian Angel" was chosen as the cover art for West End ARTSfest 2009, and graced the posters, T-shirts and bags for the event that year. When asked if she had a favorite in their body of work,  Veronica answered, "My favorite piece always changes, maybe because our work is always evolving. Lots of pieces we create have to do with events in our lives and become favorites because of that, too. The sculpture that was the cover award for 2009 was called "Guardian Angel", it's a piece that is in a series we call "Incarnations". We started the Incarnation Series in the late 90's but the series became a more important part of our body of work after 9/11 when we started focusing more on angels, guardians, warriors, and protectors."

You'll find the Bennetts and their stunning glass art sculptures along with over 60 other fine artisans at the Historic West End ARTSfest, Saturday, September 24th. Artists from across North Carolina, Virginia, New York, Florida and Ireland, who work in jewelry, painting, ceramics, photography, fiber, wood, metal, sculpture, and glass will be exhibiting in the lovely Grace Court.

The event is currently seeking sponsors to partner with them in making the event a success.
