Let's Get this Party Started

My new pocket calendar with trusty ponytail holder at the ready.
Welcome to my first-ever post.  I've wanted to start a blog for a while now, but got bogged down in the details: What should the focus be? What should the title be? Would that title restrict the content too much? Anyway, I got over all that and decided that my purpose for this blog is to share creative, inspirational ideas, encourage folks in their journey and primarily to be a creative outlet for me. Hopefully my baby blog will grow up to be interesting, useful and focused.

The title of my blog is a quote from one of my favorite authors, Anne Lamott, from her book, Grace (Eventually): Thoughts on Faith. Of course, my all-time favorite quote of hers is:

I do not at all understand the mystery of grace -
only that it meets us where we are
but does not leave us where it found us.

I highly recommend any of her other books, especially Plan B: Further Thoughts on Faith, Operating Instructions (on single parenting), Traveling Mercies and Bird by Bird (on writing).

Born in the small town that inspired Andy Griffith's "Mayberry", I've now been a proud resident of Winston-Salem, North Carolina for over a dozen years. I have two sweet young children who keep me on my toes, a love of philanthropy, photography, poetry and art (man, how I wish "art" started with a 'p' right now).

Now, it's January. I suppose I should say something about resolutions and new beginnings. I'm not much for resolutions. I think they are rarely fulfilled, usually deal with losing weight or quitting a bad habit. There are no consequences for not fulfilling the resolution, just self-imposed pressure. I prefer goals. I have a goal of getting back to exercising again. So far, that's going well. Another is to paint more this year. Again, so far, so good. I have a bucket list I like to check a few things off of each year and add a few more. But that's for another long post. Good luck to all of you in reaching your goals. Seek balance, Seek God, not perfection. "Perfectionism is the voice of the oppressor." - Anne Lamott (I'm on a roll with her stuff today!)

Thanks for reading. Bye bye Moon Pie.

  2. KRISTI! I am so excited that you're blogging now! When Sean told me, I got a little giddy. It's going to be nice having you as a neighbor in the blogsphere!

You are witty, kind and can even be a little snarky when you need to be (but even then, you are nice about it!). The blogosphere is going to be better because you've joined it!
