Happy Birthday Poe Cat!

Today is Edgar Allan Poe's birthday. In honor of this master of the macabre, tell me, what is the scariest story you've read?

I remember my first taste of Poe. Unlike my first taste of pie, it was bitter. I was in the 7th grade and our language arts teacher, Ms. Clark dimmed the lights and read us The Tell-Tale Heart. The memory of it still gives me chills. She followed with The Fall of the House of Usher and the Cask of Amontillado.

I find it most awesome that Poe, who was born in Boston, Massachusetts, is included in this vintage 1902 anthology entitled The Southern Poets, found on etsy. As a writer, Mr. Poe, I'm happy to claim you as a fellow Southerner, but did you have to go and marry your 13-year-old cousin?

The local etsy print of the Raven "Nevermore" I posted last week has sold (yay!), so although these are not local pieces, they are certainly worthy of both perusal and purchase. J'ADORE the Poe finger puppet with pinky raven! (Never mind that "Allan" is misspelled. I obviously ignored it.)

Happy Birthday Mr. Poe! Thanks for all the times you made me check under my bed. Now, I'm off to re-read "The Pit and the Pendulum".

  1. One of my fave authors. Sean knew that and bought me a collection of his works when we first got married. I think Kaiti is on the verge of delving into his stuff.

He was an interesting fella, for sure!
